Jake Shane Takes Flight for Poppi at Aero Mock-Ups
From Coach to “First-er Class” for the Launch of Poppi Shirley Temple
What happens when you combine Jake Shane, a can of Poppi and one very uncomfortable middle seat?
Apparently, you get upgraded to “First-er class.”
Aero Mock-Ups was excited to welcome Jake Shane and the Poppi team to our North Hollywood facility for “Make It poppi with Jake Shane,” a new commercial created for the launch of Poppi's Shirley Temple flavor.
And this production made use of Aero Mock-Ups in two very different ways.
Starting in Coach
The commercial begins with Jake Shane experiencing a situation familiar to just about anyone who's flown commercial: stuck in the middle seat of a crowded airplane with plenty happening around him.
For these scenes, the production filmed aboard Aero Mock-Ups' One-Aisle Airplane Cabin Set at our North Hollywood facility.
Our airplane cabin sets are designed specifically for film and television production, allowing the camera, lighting and crew to work around an authentic-looking commercial aircraft interior without the limitations of shooting aboard a real airplane.
But this particular flight wasn't going to stay in Coach for long.
Jake cracks open a Shirley Temple Poppi—and suddenly his travel experience gets a serious upgrade.
Welcome to “First-er Class”
The ordinary airplane cabin gives way to something considerably more luxurious—and much more surreal.
For the fantasy portion of the commercial, the production took advantage of another part of Aero Mock-Ups: our North Hollywood stage.
Rather than using one of our existing airplane interiors, the production team constructed its own custom luxury aircraft environment directly on our stage.
The resulting “First-er class” cabin is intentionally over-the-top: a plush private space complete with a bed, fireplace and personal flight attendant, creating an airplane experience that exists somewhere between luxury travel and Jake Shane's imagination.
That contrast between the two environments became a big part of the spot.
One moment, Jake is sitting in a recognizable commercial airplane cabin.
The next, he's aboard an aircraft where even the sunset can apparently be adjusted upon request.
Two Airplanes. One Location.
This shoot is also a great example of the flexibility of filming at Aero Mock-Ups.
Productions don't necessarily have to choose between renting one of our existing aviation sets and building something completely custom.
Here, the production did both.
The commercial airplane sequence utilized our existing One-Aisle Airplane Cabin Set, while the custom “First-er class” environment was constructed separately on our stage.
That allowed two dramatically different aircraft interiors to be created and filmed at our North Hollywood facility for the same project.
For productions with more unusual concepts, our stages can also provide space to supplement Aero Mock-Ups' existing inventory with custom scenery and production-built elements.
Making It Poppi
The finished commercial turns one of the least glamorous parts of flying—the dreaded middle seat—into a playful luxury fantasy, all to introduce Poppi's Shirley Temple flavor.
It was a fun concept, a great transformation and another example of just how many different ways an airplane scene can be created for the camera.
